TUBA

Amy Kavanagh

Amy is a Bellingham-based performer and educator who serves on the faculty at both Western Washington University and Whatcom Community College. She earned her Master of Music from the University of Denver following her undergraduate studies at Western Washington University. Over the years, she has studied under the guidance of Warren Deck, Kathy Brantigan, and Dr. Carla Rutschman.

In addition to serving as tubist in Olympus Brass, Amy has collaborated with ensembles including the Denver Brass, Denver Municipal Band, Bellingham Chamber Music Society, and Bellingham Music Club, Bellissima Brass, and Little Jazz Friends. Her solo playing has been recognized with awards at the Northwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference, the International Women's Brass Conference, and the Lamont Convocation.

HORN

Danny Kavanagh

Danny has been a dedicated horn player since elementary school. His musical background includes studies with Jeff Fair and the late Dale Clevenger, appearances at Benaroya Hall under conductors Gerard Schwarz and Kurt Masur, and performances of large-scale symphonic works such as Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring and Mahler's Second Symphony. He has also performed alongside the Seattle Symphony and the Pacific Northwest Ballet at McCaw Hall. Danny works professionally in software engineering and spends his spare time practicing parkour, riding motorcycles, and exploring sleight-of-hand magic.

TROMBONE

Luke Dahlberg

Luke Dahlberg lives in Redmond, WA and is currently the Director of Bands at Eastlake High School where he conducts the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz 1. His journey in trombone began in 5th grade, when he decided he wanted to play the same instrument as his Dad. Luke earned his degree at Western Washington University, where he studied conducting with Christopher Bianco and Ryan Dudenbostel, and trombone with Gregory Cox. Outside of the quintet, Luke is a member of the Washington Wind Symphony, he also enjoys hiking, traveling, Star Wars, and playing duets with his Dad in his free time.

TRUMPET

Dylan Smith

Dylan is an Edmonds, WA native, consultant, and data scientist whose early musical development was shaped by the rich jazz education tradition of the public schools in the greater Seattle area. He studied trumpet at the Eastman School of Music and Southern Methodist University. A few musical highlights include performing with the GRAMMY Jazz Ensemble and Monterey Jazz Festival Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, touring the U.S. with Cirque Musica’s Symphonic Arena Show, performing with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL, serving as a member of the SMU Ensemble-in-Residence, and participating in the Aspen Music Festival and School Brass Quintet Fellowship. Dylan is fortunate to continue making music locally and enjoys tennis, cycling, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Brittany.

TRUMPET

Aaron Coe

Aaron is a municipal and transportation electrical engineer by day, and an aspiring gardener by night. This will be his 19th year of brass quintet performance and he hopes for another 40. He chewed through his first plastic trumpet, but thanks his parents for the introduction to music. Outside of quintet, Aaron plays locally as principal trumpet in the Seattle Festival Orchestra and Ensign Symphony, and appears often with orchestras throughout the region. He loves cycling, climbing, and SCUBA diving with his wife, Jamie.
